Spotlight – 'The World is Ending'

Community members in Osiri village in Kenya came together in March 2026 to reflect on their participation in the overall project, and themes covered over time in workshops and performances.

They came up with a number of creative responses, including an apocalyptic poem, 'The World is Ending'.

This workshop was facilitated by Charity Koga and Nicholas Ondiek.

The World is Ending

1. Uwi , uuwi my people. I'm surprised by the world. I see the world as old as a cloth. The fathers have endulged into alcohol and cannot even bring food. We are finding it hard as women. Alcohol brings to us violence. I messed at the world.

2. Alcohol has brought a lot of trouble in the family. Women are away from their homes "wuololo, woulolo" the children also cry bitterly in their homes. I marvel, l marvel at the world. There is nowhere they can go.

3. Yawa!! Yawa! yawa!! The children also run away from school. Also makes them get into jobs that are beyond their age. How can we get help?

The world is ending! Yawa!

Chorus:

Yaye! Yaye the world is unbearable to us x3

Yaye! Yaye the world is unbearable to us

Translated from original Dholuo composition.
