Research approach

Dissemination event at Osiri village

We are a team of critical pedagogues with disciplinary specialisms across numerous research areas; applied theatre, African Theatre, Childhood Studies and International Development. Irrespective of disciplinary expertise, we have a shared belief that all knowledges are equal and dialogical education can be a route to social transformation.

This is the basis of our research approach.

In practice this means that collaboration is fundamental to every stage of the project from conception of the project itself to the co-creation of a large-scale ensemble performance at the end of the three-year process. As opposed to a pre-determined theoretical framework or project aim, the research approach meets communities in their own context and allows for themes and issues to emerge organically.

This enables a decentred research agenda away from the dominance of academic knowledges and towards a shared and collaboratively agreed agenda between researchers, communities and partners.
